Gametes are seen in the underlying endodermal canal. Scale bar: 50 /jm. some overlap. In typical sections, one or two axon profiles, but not more, are seen, showing that the neurites must be quite short, probably less than 400 ^m. In their thicker regions, they show diameters of approximately 8.5-12.0 Mm (X = 9.7, SD = 1.02, n = 10), but they taper towards the ends. Allowing for shrinkage during fixation and embedding, the axons are probably at least 12 /urn in the living animal, which is also suggested by measurements
