Rom. xvi. 25, 26: 1 Cor. ii. 7-10: Eph.i. 9; vi. 19: Col. i. 26, 27. Of course, Scripture doctrines often involvemystery in the common sense of the word. But it is not in this sensethat Scripture uses it. The doctrine that God would receive the Gen-v.iles into the church, e. g., is called by St. Paul a mystery, becauseit was not made known unto the sons of men till the gospel revealedit, Eph. iii. 3, 5. Mystery is also used in Eph. v. 32, and in Rev.for a symbolical representation, i. 20; xvii. 5, a meaning not materiallydifferent, however, from the above. It signifies an emblem of revealedtruih.
