Brian Bex, of the American Communications Network, commissioned the sculpture and gave it to the National Wildlife Federation. The National Wild life Federation turned the Bex Eagle over to the National Park Service to commemorate the bicentennial of the eagle as the nation's symbol (1782-1982).
