Colour aquatint by Orme, (after Bayley), published Jany. 29, 1822; panoramic view of battle on plain near colonial town, ridge in foreground with massed troops and native men, women and children spectators or refugees. Notes: Oblong folio, matted; margins severely trimmed; clean. N.Y., Rockman Prints, 1950.

James Bayley was born in 1784. ... Captain and adjutant of the Nagpur contingent army which was being raised at Nagpur. He took part in the Battle of Sitaburdi when he was wounded but volunteered to join Doveton’s force and the Battle of Sakkardara as he was well informed about the local geography of the battle field. He was praised for this participation. In 1818 he was made Military Secretary to the Resident and pay master of the Nagpur force. He became sick and went of leave in 1827 and returned to England. Died on 11th August 1845 in Regency square, Brighton at the age of 62. ... He had painted two scenes of the Battle of Seetabuldee, engraved by Orme and published in 1923. reference
