Description |
English: George-Philip-Reinagle. The-Battle-of-Navarino-20-October-1827 Depicted ships L-R: Foreground far left a Turkish ship (74) is engaged to starboard, with to the right in starboard-quarter view, the French Breslau (84) , is shown firing into the bow of the Turk. A Turkish frigate blowing up.
Just to the right of centre is HMS Albion (74), starboard-quarter view, in action with a Turkish double-banked frigate, only the starboard bow showing. Also in the smoke, just to the right, the port bow of a Turkish (74) engaging HMS Genoa (74), in port-bow view. Past her stern the starboard view of the flagship of the Turkish admiral, Capitan Bey, is barely visible and is engaged to starboard by Codrington's flagship, HMS Asia, in starboard-quarter view. The Asia is also engaged to port with the Egyptian flagship of Mocharem Bey, barely visible through the smoke. Slightly nearer is the smaller French Alcyone, 10 guns, and HMS Dartmouth, (42), both in starboard-quarter view, with a glimpse of the Sirene, (60) beyond. On the extreme right, half out of the picture, is a stern view of the French Trident, (74). Signed and dated 1828 in the lower right corner. |
