In the last number of The Artizax was given a Plate (333). in whichthe various forms of circular vessels as designed by Mr. John Eldor, ofGlasgow, were illustrated. It was there observed that the peculiar shape ofthe hull was well adapted for travelling at a considerable speed through thewater, as also for performing the most intricate manoeuvres with greatfacility. The question then arises as to what is the best method to beomployod for propelling a vessel of this shape in order to developo to itsfullest extent the advantages claimed for it. A screw-propeller, or bettertwo screws, might bo used, each being placed towards the outer edge of thevessel, but on opposite sides, and driven by means of a pair of enginesfitted in a well, the connecting-rod either running into ,the water: or aeasing might be constructed so as to run down int
