Summary
[edit]DescriptionThe Argyll Stones - geograph.org.uk - 819011.jpg |
English: The Argyll Stones Set within woodlands adjacent to the swing bridge which crosses the Cart. The Argyll Stones indicate the location where the 9th Earl of Argyll, Archibald Campbell, who had lead an abortive Highland rebellion against James VII, was wounded and taken prisoner. Folklore states that the reddish veins that run through the two stones are the bloodstains of the Earl. He was taken to Edinburgh and beheaded in 1685. |
