The Corbieref. 10 A Week in Jersey. the shimmering sea bursts upon your dazzled vision. Our driverwas never so happy as when on any of these occasions he and hiscarriage and his cattle came in as an accompaniment; and if acharming landscape presented itself towards the end of the day,when our last plate had been taken, his distress was genuine. Two of our days stand out perhaps above all others. On the oneday we left the carriage for a time, and went down a narrow barrenvalley. A few sheep browsed upon the rugged sides. A narrowstream ran towards the sea. The tone of the hills was sad andsombre. Everything of a smiling aspect seemed to have fled away.No creature, human or animal, crossed our path. Presently we came to the end. Far below us was the sea. Theland jutted out in rocks, sharp and precipitous, beautiful in form andoutline.
