The P. and O. steamerdid not leave till Monday, so he had to spend Sunday in Brindisi.He went to Mass at eight on Sunday morning, and then returned tohis hotel and ordered his breakfast and some English papers. He turned over the papers languidly, taking but little interest intheir contents, as he drank his coffee and ate his roll. He was toofull of his own sorrow and disappointment to care much about whatwent on in the world; he was in the mood to hate the world andits pomps and vanities, and to long for solitude.
