Proposed Lamp Standard for Markt^l Strc<.-t,San Francisco thorough study of the conditions Mr.Ryan recommended the use of luminousarc lamps mounted on standards to besupported by the existing trolley polesalong the street. Each standard carriesthree lamps mounted in the form of atriangle with its plane transverse to thestreet as is shown in the accompanyingillustration which shows the type adopted.This ornamental standard is to replacethe present top piece. It carries threeluminous arc lamps provided with a newform of glassware to better diffuse thelight. The standards are 29 ft. in heightand are to be spread at an average of110 ft. intervals on either side of the street. In the 1.42 miles from the Ferryto Seventh street, 137 poles will be thusequipped. In addition 16 lamps are tobe installed on four standards in frontof the Ferry Building by the Board ofHarbor Commissioners and four 3-lightstandards will be erected by the PalaceHotel along New Montgomery street.
