ch. The otherfibulse belonged to the sculpta?, or round saucer-shapedfibulae, made out of a solid disc of metal, bearing an incisedpattern similar to the more important one. These boresigns of having been gilded. Two of the fibulae were of theordinary flat ring pattern, and two belonged to what arecalled cross-shaped fibulae, of ordinary patterns; one istrefoil-headed, and the other is square-headed, ornamentedwith dotted lines. With respect to the bodies themselves, one of the mostperfect of the skeletons was that of a powerful young man,who was upwards of 6 ft. high and about 23 or 24 years ofage. His teeth were perfect. His chin somewhat morepointed than usual. This pointed chin marked all the lowerjaws we had an opportunity of examining, for many of theskeletons fell into dust or were broken by the workmen inremoving them. Some of the skeletons were found indis-ci-iminately upon the others, a circumstance which in othercases has given rise to the supposition that these were either
