to great advantage the beauty of floraldecoration; scarcely anything can be pro-cured more graceful or more manageable thanflowers for a subject like this. There is nowant of a second subject, although we havethe stem supported by children, emblems ofinnocence and purity like the lilies abovethem. We need not attempt to describe asubject which speaks for itself, nor ought weto criticise all the minute parts of a flower,for artists like heralds will, to a certain ex-tent, sacrifice something for the sake of conven-tional notions of propriety as concerns theirart, rather than copy the flowers from whichthey are taking their ideas. It wil be concededthat the design is, as a whole, very beautiful.In the next design, which we take fromthe same source, we have a specimen ofanother kind, well adapted for a basket offlowers, to form a splendid ornament for thehall or the;conservatory. Here the subject,being intended for flowers, is less indebted tothose beautiful objects than the former one.
