English: The Angel Hotel, Bourne
The imposing façade of the Angel Hotel has dominated the town centre at Bourne for the past 150 years although there has been an inn on this site since the earliest times. The present building dates from the 18th century and was originally known as the Nag's Head but the name was changed to the Angel Inn around 1790 when it was a regular overnight stop for stagecoaches travelling between London and the north. The inn became the Angel Hotel when the present many gabled, red brick frontage was built in 1851 and the spacious assembly rooms erected in the courtyard at the rear became one of the first public meeting places in Bourne. |
