The cedars ofLebanon still flourish, and on the lower slopesof nearly all the ranges are found cedar, cypress,and oak trees. On the plains are large groves ofmulberry and sycamore, and in the valleys aregrape-vines, groves of orange, olive, fig, pome-granate, and many nut-bearing trees. In Meso-potamia the date flourishes, and cotton, tobacco,and grains are easily cultivated. Some of theinterior plains are almost treeless, and a largeacreage is used for pasturage.
