e larger cjuantities incases of internal hjTlrocephakis. Only oncehas there been any reaction, and in thiscase the injection (300 c.c.) was made 48hours after the first stage of an operationfor cerebellar tumor (Fig. 3.). The reactionwas characterized by a rise of temperature, nausea, vomiting, and increased headache, all of which were quickly relieved afterrelease of the air by a ventricular puncture.Ten days later, a large cerebellar tumorwas removed, the patient making an un-eventful recovery. All of the injectionshave been made in children varying fromsix months to 12 years of age. Invariablythe lateral ventricle has been sharply out-lined in the roentgenogram. In two in- stances the third ventricle and the foramenof Monro were visible (Figs. 3 and 8).In none, however, have we observed thefourth ventricle or the aqueduct of Sylvius. The practical value from pneumo ven-triculography is expected principally fromthe shadows of the lateral ventricles. Day by day the air shadow diminishes

Fig. 6. Nenlriculogram (lateral view) of a more distendedventricle in a fairly aiivanced case of communicatinginternal hydrocephalus. Note the ventricular herniaand its neck communicating with the antcrosupcriorpart of the lateral ventricle. It was noce-ssarj- to drawthe hernia in the lower picture because the roentgen-ray shadow of the hernia on the roentgen-ray platewas so slight as to be visible only by an oblique or reflect-ed light. The constriction in the center of the ventricleis due to the fact that air does not till the ventricle. \entriculography S3 and eventually disappears. In a case ofinternal hydrocephalus it required twoweeks. Possibly in more normal cases thetime may be less, as air m other body tis-sues vanishes much more rapidly. In allprobability absorption of air injected intothe ventricles takes place by the samechannels as in the case of the ventricularcerebrospinal fluid. In a previous communi-cation= it has been shown that cerebro-spinal fluid is almost entirel
