The characterof the shadows in these portions of thebowel was so irregular at all times that weinferred that these portions of the colonwere, more or less continually, in a state ofspasm or collapse, and as soon as materialwas delivered to these portions, it waslargely or completely eliminated. Conse- seen in the terminal ileum. A subsequentexamination, one hour later, might revealthe head of the column distal to the middleof the transverse colon with still nothingin the cecum or ascending colon, and attwenty-four hours the bowel would beeither entirely empty or the entire mealfoimd in the sigmoid and rectum.
