bances. Case IV.—D. S., Filipino, seven yearsold. The primary lesion was on the neck,in June, 1915. One month later the motheryaw began to disappear, and a generalsecondary eruption followed after a shortfebrile period. As the secondary eruptiondisappeared, rheumatoid pains appearedin several of the joints. When the case was first seen on February10, 1917, the right arm was flexed at theelbow and made useless by a contractureon the anterior surface of the joint. Thiscontracture had persisted for the past year.At this time the Castellani treatmentwas started in one-half the adult dose, andby the end of the second week the con-tracture had disappeared, but the painfulbone lesions persisted for some time.Roentgenograms after full five monthstreatment showed a marked improvementof the lesions, but regeneration was notcomplete. While taking the treatment, the patient vomited on several occasions,showed marked depression on the fifthday, became salivated, and had severecatarrhal symptoms.

One month later the secondaryeruption appeared about the axilla, elbows,mouth, anus, and prepuce, and theselesions disappeared without treatment,but soon afterward contractures of theextremities and severe rheumatoid painsin the feet developed. These conditionsexisted for about two years, and at the timeI first saw him, he was able to get aroundand do light work. The roentgen rayplates showed bone lesions in the left oscalcis, on the articular surface of the upperextremitv of the left tibia, and on the 43° Bone and Joint Lesions of Yaws phalanges of the hands. The patient wasstarted on the Castellani treatment Feb-ruary 10, 1917, and by February 25marked improvement was evident. Tohasten the recovery of the case, 0.2 gramof salvarsan was given intraveno
