In therapid type, the patient usually is over-whelmed by toxemia and dies with consid-erable intact lung tissue; with slowly pro-gressive disease and less toxemia life maylast when the roentgenogram reveals sur-prisingly little sound tissue. In the latter The first phase of repair is clearing ofmottling; and by this is meant the disap-pearance of perifocal inflammation. Theexplanation has its basis in the concept ofallergic reaction to which we have alreadyreferred.
