It is offeredfor the benefit of those who use radium (I i Fig. i. (a) Shows bulb of radium emanation in curvedcontainer for larynx or other similar use. (b) Bulbin straight applicator, (c) Brass filter which may beplaced over emanation bulb. emanation and are thereby permittedto have a varying supply of applicatorswith varying amounts of radioactive sub-stance in them. The entire output of emanation fortwenty-four hours—about 600 mc.—is col-lected in a small, thin glass bulb 5 mm. indiameter (Fig. 1 A). The size and shape ofthis may be varied to suit individual needs. This bulb is then sealed with paraffinin the end of a steel cone just large enoughto receive it and permit of complete inclu-sion (Fig. 1 B). The steel cone has attachedat its apex a pliable metal rod about 45 cm.in length which permits the operator to keep a reasonable distance from the emana-tion. The pliable material permits bendingto facilitate applications in various loca-tions. It will be seen that the bulb of

While the distance afforded by the longmetal handle is considerable protectionto the operator, it is not sufficient for all radium for their treatment and a dangerousamount of exposure on the part of theoperator. Many of these are very superficial and acentimeter or less in diameter. In thetreatment of such lesions this bulb hasproved very valuable. It can be held in
