d twenty ormore Treponema pertenue to every field.One cubic centimeter of this serum wastaken from this lesion for inoculation ofanimals. In the latter part of October,1916, the secondary eruption appeared onthe face, scalp, neck, abdomen, and vulva.When the patient was admitted to the hos-pital, these lesions were nearly all circularin outline, although a few of the lesions onthe face were more or less elliptical. Theywere raised from the surface and coveredby a thick, hard yellowish crust. Removalof the crust left a raw, granulating surface.Some of the lesions of the face and abdomenwere flattened out and deeply pigmentedat the edges. The pains in the bones and joints startedin December, 1916, and gradually becamemore and more intense, until she could hardly walk. The phalangeal joints of thefingers were swollen and painful.
