AMERICAN JOURNAL OF ANATOMY—VOL. THE ARTERIOL.E EECT.E OF THE MAMMALIAN KIDNEY/ G. CARL HUtiER, From the Laboratory of Histology and Embryology of theUniversity of Michigan. With 4 Text Figures. In a comprehensive and relatively recent contribution on the bloodsupply of the mammalian kidney, Golubew ^ calls attention to the differ-ences of views still existing concerning the minute anatomy of this organand states that of these controversial questions special mention may bemade of the vasa recta of Henle and Bonders or of the arteriole rect^eof authors. A study of the literature which is fully reviewed by Golu-bew leads him to state that at the time of his communication three viewswere current pertaining to the origin of the arteriolse rectae. Accordingto one view, these vessels arise from the vasa efferentia of the glomeruliwhich lie nearest to the pyramid of the kidney, a view early expressed byBowman who was followed by Gerlach, Ivolliker, and Ludwig in theirearlier writings.
