GENERAL VIEW OF THE BOSTON SHOW. plant of Wm. Turner on exhiliition that measured seven feet in diameter and carried over 700 flowers. She also ex- hibited some fancy cut blooms of Wm. Turner, Dr. Enguehard and several other varieties. Her gardener, Wm. Blackwood, had charge of her exhibit and was awarded a special silver medal. W. A. Manda, Inc., of South Orange, N. J., had on display his new dahlia, Albert Manda, wUich is an un- usually fine light yellow. Tnis firm al.so had on e-xhibition several novelties in decorative plants which were in charge of R. Karlstrom, their traveling repre- sentative. Wm. Tricker, Arlington, N. J., exhibited his perpetual flowering nymphaea, Mrs. Woodrow Wilson, and this exhibit proved to be quite a mag- net to the visitors. Winterson's Seed Store made a showing of decorative plants of all descriptions which occu- pied one corner of the hall. The E. G. Hill Co., of Richmond, Ind., exhibited a vase of their new rose Hoosier Beauty and a fine new yellow No. 1000. Both were splendid varieties and will be heard from later. Elmer D. Smith & Co., Adrian, Mich., sent a fine collection of fourteen different varieties of chry.s- anthemums, among which were several magnificent seedlings. The shipment did not arrive until the second day, when it was too late to enter them for competition. The Breitmeier Floral Co., Mt. Clements, Mich, exhibited a disbudded pompon that was something out of the ordinary and attracted some little attention. Peter Reinberg had on display the second day some splendidly grown roses, including Mrs. Geo. Shawyer, My Maryland, Sunburst, Ophelia, Rich- mond, Killarney and White Killarney. John Mangel, the Palmer House flor- ist, had a nice, artistically arranged basket of chrysanthemums on disrilay. The Chicago Carnation Co. exhibited a vase of its new carnations Peerless Pink and Aviator and the J. D. Thompson Carnation Co. had on dis- play a vase of its new seedlings. Vera, Hero and Superb. N. J. Wietor and Guy W. French acted as judges and two better men could not have been selected, for they are well versed in the culture of chrysanthemums, and the fact that not a single exhibitor made a complaint shows that they per- formed their duties well. The so^ ciety's medals were awarded as prizes. AWARDS. Best group of chrysanthemum plants —Vaughan's Seed Store, Chicago, first. Best display of cut blooms, large flowering chrysanthemums — Poehl- mann Bros. Co., first; Mrs. A. C. Al- lerton, Lake Geneva, Wis., second. The collection of stock plants of the Robert Craig Co. was very highly col- ored. Dracaena Craigii is a beautiful plant with its center leaves brilliantly marked. The various crotons were striking, many of them seedlings of their own, showing improvement over many existing sorts. The Nephrolepis John Wanamaker is very distinct with its rather narrow, dark green fronds, some of them tasseled. The festoons of Japanese lanterns in the large hall added color and grace, and were a strong feature in the decorative effect. The exhibit of Thomas Long, for which he received a blue ribbon, in- cluded the large specimen ferns in the lower lobby, which were splendid plants. The varieties were Gleichenia flabellata, Davallia aflinis, Polypodium sporadocarpum, Davallia Fijlensis plumosus. The H. F. Michell Co.'s collection of outdoor pompons and single chrysan- themums were interesting; they wer» all correctly labeled.
