' The last week of July was typical of the season, the demand being very light. Certain stocks are piling up, notably the field gladioli, which are coming from all directions and help to fill jars that have been idle for some time. Much of the stock is very poor. Why men will grow the mixed and poor colors of the small flower sorts is a problem. Very much of the stock will hardly return express charges. The beautiful variety Amer- ica has set a high standard and other sorts to be saleable must in a way approach this standard. There is a fair supply of roses. Maryland, Sunrise, Mock, Taft, Ward and a new red called Stenton in the high grades are all acceptable. There are also some American Beauties, good for the sea- son. Asters are now an important factor. A few really good flowers. New York state stock, are seen, but the bulk of the stock is local and only fair. There are plenty of fine Easter lilies and valley, the market being rather overstocked with the latter. Double white petunias are a useful addition, gladly welcomed by the de- sign workers. Wholesale men report fair shipping demand, mostly for flow- ers to be used at"'fuppfals. CLtIB MEETING. The August meeting of the club was a social affair. There was music from a victrola and refreshments. A com- mittee was appointed to co-operate with the National Gardeners' Associa- tion to further the cause of horticul- ture. The S. A. F. convention com- mittee reported that over 50 members have engaged berths on the boat and it is thought that the number will be considerably increased by the time of going. The topic for next month will be "The Convention as I Saw It," mem- bers giving their views of what espe- cially appealed to them. NOTES. Flower pots are just pots, very ple- beian articles, but we must have them, and to see them manufactured for the GUST. RUSCH & CO.
