164 The American Florist. Aug. IS THE RETAIL TRADE Conducted by Robt. Klft, PhUadelphia, Pa. Whlti House Funeral Flowers. Among the flowers at the "White House for the funeral of Mrs. Wilson were many elaborate designs. Wash- ington florists were called upon as never before. Orders came by cable and telegraph from every part of the world. Scarcely a capital of the world or a city of the United States was un- represented. A great blanket of orchids sent by the democratic clubs of Baltimore was carried by six men. From every quarter of the land had come the floral tributes of great pub- lic organizations, of states and states- men, cities and citizens. The simple gray casket rested upon a bank of flowers 15 feet high. The newsboys of Washington, whom Mrs. Wilson had befriended, sent a wreath which touched the president's heart perhaps more deeply than the tributes of rulers. Before the service the presi- dent placed a wreath of orchids and lily of the valley upon the coffin. Seven vans carried the flowers to the Union station, whence the body of Mrs. Wilson was to be carried to Rome. Ga., for burial. The president ordered most of the flowers sent to the Washington hospitals, as it was im- possible to carry all on the train. At a meeting of the Florists' Club of Philadelphia, held Tuesday, July 7, the selection of the route to be taken by the club in attending the conven- tion of the S. A.'F. at Boston, August 18-20, was the subject of spirited dis- cussion, each member of a committee i of three favoring a different route. It was finally decided that the club will go to New York via the Philadelphia & Reading railroad, thence to Bos- ton by Metropolitan line boat, leaving Murray street. New York, at five o'clock p, m. The fare will be .$12..50 Philadelphia to Boston and return.' state rooms extra. As the New York Florists' Club will go to Boston on the same boat there should be a merry crowd. Leo Nies- sen was chosen chairman of a com- mittee to see the party safely on board the boat. Washington to Boston. BOSTON CONVENTION ARRANGEIIENTS. The committee on transportation for the trip to Boston of the Florists' Club of Washington, D. C, has made ar- rangements to go on the Merchants and Miners Line from Baltimore, leav- ing that city Friday, August 14, at 6 p. m., and Norfolk Saturday, the 15th, at 7 p. m., arriving in Boston Monday, the 17th, at 0 a. m.. in good shape after a most delightful and restful trip. This trip will allow a day (Saturday) at Old Point Comfort. Norfolk, Cape Henry, or Virginia Beach. The fare, which includes berth and meals, will he .$15 one way and $25 for
