Visitors. The visitors included Myer Heller and P. J. Lynch,' New Castle, Ind.; Theo. Dorner and wife and Mrs. Hol- blick, Lafayette, Ind.; Prof. H. B. Dor- ner and Prof. J. Hutchinson, Urbana, 111.; C. C. Pollworth and Nic. Zweifel, Milwaukee, Wis.; Chas. H. Totty and Wm. Duckham, Madison, N. J.; Elmer D. Smith and wife, Adrian, Mich.; E. G. Hill and Earl H. Y.; James Karins, Philadelphia, Pa.; W. H. Griffiths, Lake Geneva, Wis.; Frank Kuehne, Ocono- mowoc. Wis.; Frank M. Ryan, South Bend, Ind.; H. P. Knoble, Geo. W. Smith, C. W. Wagner, Fred. Brown, Geo. Bate, Frank Friedley, Chas. Gibson and H. Bate, Cleveland, O. Echoes of the Philadelphia Show. There was but one opinion of the recent exhibition of the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society at Philadelphia, and that was that it was quite the equal of any that had gone before, and in some respects better. Wednes- day saw the rose exhibits. There were not many entries. Jos. Heacock's Killarney. White Killarney and Radi- ance and A. Farenwald's American Beauty were all high class. The sen- sation were the vases of Killarney Bril- liant from the Robert Scott & Son nurseries. This variety appears to be in a class by itself. The stock staged had stems three to four feet in length, with magnificent high colored blooms. They should sell almost as well as American Beauty. Irish Fire Flame was another feature of this exhibit, tion. Julius Wolfe, Jr., showed a fine chrysanthemum basket. The orchid displays were at all times surrounded by an admiring throng. The Widener decorative group arranged by John Kuhns for Wm. Kleinheintz was one of the features of the exhibition. Louis Burk's case of orchids contained 99 varieties. They were all numbered and from a catalogue in front the name of any variety was easily ob- tained. Charles H. Totty's pompon and sin- gle flowered chrysanthemums were much admired. It was a very fine collection. The size of the specimen cut flower chrysanthemums was freely commented on and quite a number of the oldest growers say they never saw them so large. Wm. Graham thinks the gardeners should be allowed \ to plant more than one chrysanthemum plant to a pot and that if this was the case the size of the blooms would be very materially increased. As usual there was a very fine display of green- house and stove foliage plants. They were very high colored and vigorous. As to the prizes and who got them, it is too long a tale. John Doods, Wm. Robertson, Samuel Batchelor Wm. Kleinheinz, Jos. Harley, David Aitken and Thos. Long had blue rib- bons on their entries in all directions. Wm. Kleinheinz received a silver medal as well as a first prize on his orchid exhibit. -.iWe must not forget that plant of Paridanus Lindenhurst, a magnificently colored plant of this variety, which originated with John Doods, gardener for John Wanamaker. The attendance showed quite an ap- preciable increase over that of the past few years, and all were highly delighted with the exhibition as a whole. The aquarium display in the center consisting of Japanese lion- headed and other forms of rare gold fish was very attractive. K. Tarrytown Horticultural Society. The fifteenth annual exhibition of the Tarrytown Horticultural Society, Tarrytown, N. Y., November 4-6, 1913, was one of the best, if not the best, in the history of the society. Both in the general arrangement and decora- tions and in each of the exhibits, evi- dence of taste and love of the artis- tic were shown. Among the more striking of the exhibits was the Kil- larney Queen display of the F. R. Pier- son Co. The chrysanthemums also, as was to be expected, were of a high order and showed skill in culture as well as taste in arrangement. The judges for the first day were Joseph Tansy, Tuxedo Park; Allen J. Jenkins, Albany; Adam Paterson, Saugatuck, Conn. The second day's judges were as follows: David Gordon, Chap- paqua; Thomas Ranger, Mt. Kisco; Samuel Redstone, New York. Lady judges for this day were Mrs. Stuyve- sant Fish, Miss Janet Fish, Mrs. James Speyer and Miss Harriette Rogers. E. W. Neubrand, John Featherstone and P. J. Fay were judges the last day.
