In fact, one is permitted tophotograph as much as one likes, providing the animals arenot molested or unnecessarily disturbed or annoyed. During the past few months the writer has been a frequentvisitor at the excellent Zoo at Cincinnati, Ohio, and here onecan photograph to ones hearts content, and facilities areafforded for the purchase of films and other photographicsupplies. Zoo photography is intensely interesting work and willwell repay the time and effort devoted to it, but even with allrestrictions regarding the use of the camera removed, onemust not think it is an easy matter to obtain good pictures.It is not; difffculties will be encountered that will tax theenergy of the most enthusiastic. The main essentials for success are, a good lens, a quickeye, and as much attention to composition and other detailsas the case will allow. Great patience and careful observationmust be devoted to securing effective poses, good lighting andappropriate backgrounds. Animals in captivity are very restless and continually onthe move. To obtain successful pictures of them one mustcombine patience with quickness to seize the most favorablemoment for making the exposure. A long-focus lens, oreven a telephoto, will often be found useful in dealing withcreatures difficult to approach at close quarters, or such asare small. A very low viewpoint is often an advantage, butcare must be taken that no near foreground objects obscurethe actual object. Most of the popular makes of hand cameras are adaptedfor the purpose. T
