sense of personal respon-sibility. Executives are ofttimes chosen because they aregood fellows, rather than because of ability to direct theclub and to plan properly for its management. That holdsgood also of committee chairmen. It is considered to be anhonor, and that is why many accept, giving little thoughtto the duties and responsibilities of the position. If you everhave had any correspondence with them, you know what Imean. Now why should that condition exist in theseenlightened days. A voice from the dark says that it isbecause they all work without pay and do not have to workif they do not want to. True! But if that spirit actuatesthem they should relinquish the job and let some one else takeit, for surely there is some person in the organization whowould make good. The officials of fraternal organizations,with few exceptions, are not paid. You will find officersand committeemen in such orders taking great pride in thegrowth of their society. When the day comes thatCamera Clubs and Photographic Societies are conducted andmanaged on a businesslike basis, with a thought for all andmalice toward none, the pictorial photographers will be seekingmembership; eager to help in promoting and cultivating theart and science of photography. And it should be so to-day.The Camera Club should not be too big for the pictorialphotographer, nor the pictorial photographer too big for theclub. Harmony should reign; with the club seeking the aidof the advanced worker and the latter in turn, offering hisassistance to the local club. If the community is so unfor-tunate as not to have an organization, the pictorial workersshould see that one is immediately founded. Let you and me dream for a moment.
