to one print, but I have never been able to see the reason forthis extra work when they can be so easily secured on onenegative. Of course if there are no clouds in the sky when the nega-tive is taken it will be necessary to print them in from anothernegative, but great care must be taken to see that the lightingof the clouds and landscape is from the same direction andtaken near the same time of day; also to perfectly blend theclouds and landscape at the horizon. In taking open landscapes and water scenes with no nearbydark objects, it is possible to get a well-balanced negativewithout using a screen. Development should be carried outwith a dilute developer and care taken not to carry it too far.Err on the side of under rather than over-development. Print No. i was taken in this way with an exposure of 1/50second at stop U. S. 4, on a Hammer orthochromatic plate.No. 2 was taken with a three times screen with an exposureof I second at stop U. S. 16 on a Hammer orthochromaticplate. 242
