The cards when leaving the fixing bath are care-fully drained and passed to the first washing water. Carefuldraining has more to do with the elimination of hypo than veryconsiderable washing when hurriedly done, hence when trans-ferring the cards from one washing water to another drainingshould be carefully attended to for the first several waters. No cards can be expected to wash well if placed in runningwater and allowed to take their chance, hence with postcardshand changing is almost imperative, but the amount of handwashing usually assumed to be necessary is really very un-necessary. Careful drainage in order to get rid of all adherentwater more or less charged with hyposulphite, followed bygood soakings between the changes will make long tediouswashings superfluous. My own batches seldom get more than 66

The keynote of success in this method of producing bromidepostcards is the exposure. This must be carefully ascertainedso that the cards can be developed in batches of the numbergiven without forcing from under-exposure on the one handor hurry from over-exposure on the other. Developmentshould proceed gradually and evenly and occupy until com-pleted about four minutes. It is an extremely expeditious andreliable method of working for producers of moderate quanti-ties of cards which I have thoroughly tested by daily use forthe last ten years.
