For oval surfaces, like the cul-ture tube (Figure i) it is possible to cut out the streak of lightgenerally seen down the front in daylight exposures and toshow only the contents side cut. With three lamps of 200 watts each, an exposure of sixseconds on a plate of Cramer Crown speed at F/16, will giveample time. Color sensitive plates require less exposure. By keeping a list of exposures it will be very easy to referto it for an exact exposure at any time, as the light is a fixedfactor, while daylight is a zery variable one. This is a greatassistance to those who have only an occasional copy to make. Steel reflectors with burnt aluminum lining are best, but adifferent opening must be made from the one already in thereflector. I have been successful in copying rough prints with the re-sulting negative, showing very faintly the grain of the original.In other words, you get a photograph of the print, and not the texture of the paper. 234
