erefore not perhaps bepossible by studying the conditions under which these colorsare produced in the flowers from the original green chlorophyllby nature, that similar means might be employed to decomposethe chlorophyll in such a way so as to obtain all the colors ofthe spectrum. It should be easier even than obtaining Anilinedyes out of black coal, this coal being the final product oforiginally green vegetation changed by ages of compressionin and by the earths crust. The above are only observations, perhaps with some, per-haps with little value, but if we never think about things wecannot get ideas, many hypotheses have been erroneous inscience, but sometimes have been the means to be a steppingstone to progress, while many hypotheses have appeared to bestartling, yet they have been proven to be means of the correctsolution of the result to be attained. We can only try, and ifwe should be wrong there is nothing lost, while v/e might gain,we simply have to continue until we succeed.
