the ex-posure to the extent of allowing the feeble light, generallyassociated with night pictures, to make a visible impression onthe emulsion of the plate. It is possible to photograph what-ever we can see, regardless of time, place or conditions. Before approaching the mechanical side of the subject a fewwords in connection with its artistic interest will assist in themaking of better pictures. Haphazard work in night photography cannot be tolerated.In the daytime it is sometimes possible to secure a good resultwith little, if any, previous study of the subject; but afterdark such chance-taking will inevitably lead to worthlessprints. To enter this delightful field - of photography withserious intentions it is obligatory that the worker center hisefforts on the charm, not the mere novelty, of the subjectin hand. It is urgent that he study and try to appreciate theconditions with which he will meet, and when the enchant-ment and fantastic witchery of Night has once taken its hold 38
