Text Appearing Before Image:
is. One peculiarity of simultaneous developing and printing isthat it will give a normal print from a normal negative and anormal print from a contrasty negative without changing theconstituents of the developer. The reason for this is thatwherever the silver image is developed, the light action onthat part becomes slower on account of the coating of silverand as the thin parts of the negative develop first, they auto-matically slow up in developing thereby allowing the light topenetrate the dense parts on the negative before the shadowsare overdeveloped. This process is by no means fool proof. The worker whohandles his wet paper with his fingers covered with hypo orwho uses his solutions at a temperature of over 70 degreeswill have stained prints to remind him of his carelessness. But with ordinary care such as should be used in any photo-graphic work, he will find that this method of enlarging willgive him a degree of control over the print hitherto impossiblein bromide enlarging. 73
Text Appearing After Image:
A DESERTED STREPIT. II. II. BROOK. THE NEGLECTED STUDIO SHOWWINDOW By JESSIE ROBINSON BISBEE ALK through the streets of any town of lessthan ten thousand people, east or west, northor south, and watch carefully every studio showwindow that you see. There are the proverbialexceptions, to be sure, but the general averageis an unpleasant surprise. Here is a case in the middle of November still bearing thesoap decorations of the Halloween merry-makers. Here isanother studio, depending largely upon portraits, giving thebest side of its limited show space to kodak work during theportrait harvest time, December. There are other cases wherethe same pictures are shown month after month. Like Tenny-sons brook, they seem to remain forever. 74
