Another photographer asked the question: Where do youthink a poor country photographer is going to get $500.00 tostart this business, and how am I going to get my money back ?Right in his home town a Cinematograph Film Company paida visit to the local authorities who had themselves taken withthe Fire and Police Companies in review. A few new roadsin the making were photographed along with a farming experi-ment at the poorhouse. A positive film was supplied, theauthorities paid $1800.00 of good money for this, and the totalcost to the cinematographer was about $300.00; net profit,$1500.00. This is no fairy story. It is being duplicated allover the country week in and week out. Local photographerswho are helping support the community by living in the midstand paying taxes, etc., ought to be the first to reap any benefitsaccruing from orders such as is above outlined. A New York manwas sent for, his charges were $.85 per foot, and all expenses.He made 700 feet of film and cleared a profit of $.70 on eachfoot.
