differs radically from any with whichthe writer is acquainted, in accordance with the modern ten-dency he is going to name it after himself and offer it to thefraternity for what it may be worth! In brief, the method consists in eliminating the negative—which appears to be the chief source of trouble—entirely fromthe actual process of enlarging, and in so doing dispose ofnumerous other annoyances and expenses connected with theold style process. To accomplish this it is only necessary tomake a contact print, preferably on glossy paper, from thenegative and use this print in the subsequent processes—theessential step of which is in projecting the image of this print,by means of apparatus differing from the common post-cardprojector only in its lens equipment, upon a dry plate andthus produce an enlarged negative from which subsequentlarge-sized prints may be made. By this means, and using a special apparatus patented byhimself, the writer has secured enlargements of sixty-nine 24

It is his opinion that this scope might have been in-creased very largely and that equivalent results might be se-cured by any practitioner, using a common post-card projectorwith a camera lens substituted for the regular optical equip-ment of that instrument. It may be brought out that the making of an enlarged glassnegative instead of the direct enlargement upon paper involvesadditional expense, but this is indeed of slight importance ascompared with the manifold advantages of the process. First,of course, is the retention of detail, which seems to be due tothe fact that there is no transmission of the light-rays throughglass, but there are other phases almost as important. Consider, for example, that in the apparatus for such workneither condensers, nor the arc light with its attendant rheostatare necessary; with two sixteen candle power carbon filamentlamps (the ordinary incandescent bulbs
