Standard Orthonon—September 8th-F-16—4 seconds exposure. FRANK A. RUGG. -6 P.M. (Sunset). find a photographer who confidently asserts that he decidesupon the proper time to give by judging the intensity of theHght on the ground-glass. A friend of mine, who does agreat deal of difficult copying under varying light conditions, always uses two plates on the given subject, giving one fourtimes as long an exposure as the other. In my opinion, the exposure meter ought to be of greatassistance at those times when it is very difficult, if notimpossible, to determine the actinic value of the light. I haveused, for some years, a set of exposure tables (by F. DundasTodd) with great satisfaction. The tables are very helpful, 8g

When it comes to deciding whetherthe light is brightest sun, no haze, bright sun, sunobscured, dull, or very dull, the task is not so easy. Anexposure meter is just as useful and just as sensible at thisstage in the game as is ones watch to measure the flight oftime. A good set of tables, then a reliable exposure meter and care-ful judgment, to be gained only by varied experience, shouldgive us very nearly perfect negatives. 90
