Soon most of my companions were laid low, and I believeI would have shared the same fate, but the woodmen didnot think it would pay them to disturb me. At least thiswas what I gathered from a conversation two of them hadregarding me. We winna min this ane, will we, Geordie? Na, na; lat it stan; its jist a scantlin, an the win 11seen blaw it doon. So I was left with some others, scantlins like myself; and cold and dismal it was to one so accustomed to shelter and society. When spring came I felt stronger than ever I did before,and my dress was of a richer hue and of more ample pro-portions than I had ever know^n it. In the leafy month of June picnic parties made merry inthe clearing which the woodmen had made, but none admiredmy beauty till a gentleman with a camera came along oneday with one of these companies. Ah ha! said he, here is something out of the ordinary;I must have a picture of this. Accordingly he photographed my companions and I.
