avy stroke deposits ink, and a light taplifts it if the brush is clean. In case any part of the print lookstoo heavy, you can lift the ink by dabbing the brush on a drypiece of clean paper and then lifting it an inch or so above theprint and dropping it on the surface, catching it on the re-bound. This is called hopping, and with practice can bedone very rapidly and with surprising results. Shadows canbe lightened or high lights cleaned up very easily. Thesmoothest texture is obtained by using a fairly thin ink with alight, quick stroke. A stiff ink and a heavy stroke produces avery granular print that is not very satisfactory. The rule Ifollow is to thin the ink by adding one drop of oil at a timeuntil it takes very freely on the exposed edge of the print, butdoes not stain the unexposed part when I use the regular light 286 tapping stroke. This makes hopping unnecessary, and givesthe very finest detail. A slightly heavier stroke will deposit thisink over the highlights when desired.
