Those *oil and *gum prints in which the photographicproperties have been eHminated, and the photographic orig-inal concealed, or destroyed, as merely interesting hybrids,many of them, no doubt, exhibiting a rare refinement of artisticperception, but all of them harmful to the true progress ofpictorial photography, misleading as they do the youngerworkers. But a healthy reaction has set in against the school of ex-treme interference, and we find Monsieur Demechy at theopening of his one-man show at the Royal Photographic Soci-ety, saying: It is not without diffidence that I venture to showa series of locally developed prints at a time when pure pho-tography is at a premium amongst many pictoriaists.
