Photographers tell me it takes patience to photographgrown people. Much more, however, is required for children.It sometimes seems as if the only time they are good is whenasleep, but even sleeping beauties do not usually make goodpictures. You can make up your mind that your best results will bechance pictures, and that you will spoil many plates beforegetting a prize; but, once secured, you will realize that theprize is worth the cost. So make up your mind to be patient,or give up. Very often you can make much progress by studying your 230 subject for some time beforehand and trying to get the childsconfidence and good will amid the surroundings you wish. Itis then but a short step to introduce the camera and get theimpression—provided the light is propitious and the child ingood humor.
