The circular subterraueau clubhouse owned by the men of each Pueblo dan, from which the women were excluded except on special occasions, served as sleeping quarters and council chamber. The round pit seen in the foreground is a fireplace, while the rectangular area slightly above and to the left of it is the opening through which fresh air entered the room. A tunnel connects this opening with a shaft outside the curving wall which leads to the surface by fire.
