HOVEY, THE FOYER METEORITES 31 "Ring" on account of its peculiar shape, was found in the Santa Catarina Mountains about thirty miles northwest of the city of Tucson, Arizona, and its existence was known to the Spaniards for at least two hundred years before the region became part of the United States. Tradition, indeed, relates that this and many other fragments fell in a single meteor- itic shower about the middle of the seventeenth century.
