Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The 'Prospect of Whitby', Wapping The 'Prospect of Whitby', probably London's oldest Thames-side inn, was certainly in business as long ago as 1520, when it was known as the Devil's Inn. Nowadays perfectly respectable, it was in the past the haunt of almost every kind of villain known to the authorities. Samuel Pepys and Charles Dickens are known to have dined there, and it was for many years associated with Judge Jeffreys. To the right can be seen the spire of St. Paul's Church, Shadwell, which looks like a Wren church, but isn't.
