English: The "Clarence Railway" at Spennymoor The Clarence Railway was constructed 1833-1837 to link the iron ore mines at Shildon to Port Clarence, Middlesbrough. This length of the abandoned line here between Spennymoor and Ferryhill is followed for a short way by a public footpath. Between Spennymoor and Bishop Auckland, the line of the railway is followed by the Auckland Way, a foot- and cycle-path. |
