Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The river Kshipra (Shipra), following the close of the Singhasth Kumbh Mela in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. On the opposite bank people can be seen queing up to take a dip in the sacred river. According to Hindu Mythology, it is considered to be one of the locations where the nectar of immortality (Amrita) was dropped by the god Vishnu when he was carrying it in a pot (Kumbh). During the time of the Kumbh, which occurs once in twelve years, taking a dip in the river is believed to absolve one of all sins.
