Bahasa Indonesia: - Kraken adalah makhluk mitologi yang digambarkan sebagai seekor gurita (atau cumi-cumi) raksasa yang siap menelan apa saja yang mengganggunya. Para pelaut sejak zaman kuno ( *ancient mariner* ) menyebarkan adanya Kraken secara turun-temurun.
- Pada zaman ini, Kraken ada di mana-mana, khususnya di dunia bisnis. Perusahaan akan makin besar dengan menyaplok perusahaan yang lebih kecil. Pilihannya hanya dua, perusahaan kecil itu akan dibesarkan atau malah dimatikan. - Seperti halnya di dunia akademik, bisnis tidak lepas dari dunia itu. Seperti juga Kraken, para penerbit raksasa ini siap untuk mengambil alih pengelolaan jurnal dan infrastruktur akademik lainnya, atau tentunya mereka buat sendiri untuk mematikan yang sudah ada. Tidak terhitung berbagai layanan yang awalnya nirlaba kemudian diambil alih oleh entitas bisnis raksasa ini untuk menjadi bagian dari portofolio mereka.English: - Kraken is a mythological creature depicted as a giant octopus (or squid) ready to swallow anything that bothers him. Sailors since ancient times (*ancient mariner*) have spread the existence of the Kraken from generation to generation.
- In this day and age, Kraken is everywhere, especially in the business world. Companies will get bigger by overtaking smaller companies. There are only two choices, the small company will be raised or even shut down. - As in the academic world, business cannot be separated from that world. Like Kraken, these giant publishers are ready to take over the management of journals and other academic infrastructure, or of course they can create their own to shut down existing ones. Countless various services that were initially non-profit were later taken over by this giant business entity to become part of their portfolio. |
