Description

Thüringerwaldbahn ( rural route 4 yellow livery on this handsome articulated Gotha tram nr 216 without the trailer used during DDR times waiting at the Hauptbahnhof after a downpour. It looks as if the tram has been converted to one-person operation, with the driver issuing tickets, and signs for Kasse and Kasse beim Fahrer on the side.

Between 1989 and 1991 some of the articulated Gotha GT4 units of the Gotha concern, used on the long overland route to the mountain resort of Tabarz received this yellow livery, in common with some of the newer Tatra trams. Trams used exclusively on Gotha town services were painted a light blue. The town sign for Walterhshausen has been replaced in the previous year, having sported the name of the DDR Bezirk ERFURT previously. Car no 216 was scrapped in 1994. Car 215 survives from the 16 such vehicles.
