Heading up Rue de Lorraine in Beaune. We would head past the gateway, then head right around the old walls and ramparts. Starting from Boulevard Maréchal Joffre.
For a hundred and fifty years, the Municipal Theatre has belonged to the physiognomy of the Rue de Lorraine and to the memory of the Beaunois. Its construction on the bastion Saint-Nicolas, replacing a previous room of entertainment, inscribes it in the course of a history of the theatre and more widely the show in Beaune, which goes back to the Middle Ages. The construction of the Municipal Theatre of Beaune is the result of the will of the public authorities. The majestic building, in the style of the Second Empire, reflects the prosperity of the city and the social order of the time. As a witness of its time, the Municipal Theatre has woven its own history, experienced a period of relative erasure to become again the inescapable place of a cultural program open to the greatest number . |
