At that time, no thorough school existed in thiscountry, and it was necessary to begin at the foundationof the work, without previous knowledge of the exactmethods to be adopted, or means to be employed to reachthe desired end. Search, who was President 01the Textile Association, as well as Vice-President and Chair-man of the Committee on Instruction of the PennsylvaniaMuseum and School of Industrial Art. Indeed, he assumedat first the entire financial responsibility of organizing andequipping the Textile School, and to his devoted and untiringservice in its behalf, from its first inception to its presenthigh state of development, more than to all other agenciescombined, its success is due.
