DYEING In this subject the attention of the student is first called to thephysical structure and chemical composition of the sdk fibre, so thathe may understand its behavior when subjected to the differentchemical and physical processes used during the progress of itsmanufacture. The methods of conditioning, of boiling off, andbleaching of silk are studied. The application of the different classesof dyestuffs is then taken up, and various methods of mordanting andweighting are practiced in such a manner as to give the student anintelligent insight into the working of these processes. Considerableattention is paid to the methods of ascertaining the character andamount of weighting in silk goods, and also the determming of theamount of silk in mixed goods. The chemical principles underlyingthese matters are constantly held before the mind of the student,who acquires his knowledge in a practical manner through experi-menting on concrete examples. ^^^Qp^ 7Z

JACQUARD DESIGN COURSE JACQUARD DESIGN COURSE This course has been provided to meet a growingdemand of those who desire instruction relating directly tosuch necessary knowledge as is required in the productionof the various kinds of figured textiles, such as damask,dress goods, draperies, carpets, etc. Two years are required for its completion. Subjects of Study—First Year In the studies of \veave formation, analysis and structure offabrics, color harmony, free-hand drawing, figured design and warppreparation and weaving, the class follows the outline given for thefirst year of the Three-Year Textile Course.
